What You Should do if You Think
You've Been Given a Date Rape Drug

You should follow the same procedures as in any "rape" situation. In addition, inform the health care professional that you've been given a date rape drug. They will collect evidence with the other evidence they are collecting.

Where do you go for help?  Call Women & Children in Crisis, Inc. at 336-1188, or call the local police department 337-1000 (non-emergency number).

If you want to report the incident to the police as an assault, you should not shower, bathe, douche, change clothes or straighten up the area until medical and legal evidence is collected because these actions will destroy evidence. After calling the police, then go to the hospital and have the medical evidence collected.

A urine test performed as quickly as possible after ingestion will detect the presence of sedating drugs. The test is free and can be requested by law enforcement officers, rape crisis centers and hospital emergency departments. Every hour matters.
