"Rebirth of a Nation: Nationalism & the Civil War"

The Miami Public Library is inviting all ages to gain more understanding about the American Civil War era during a new reading and discussion series called "Rebirth of a Nation: Nationalism & the Civil War".

The series is part of the "Let's Talk About It" program in America. It is being sponsored in Miami by the Oklahoma Library Association and the Oklahoma Foundation for the Humanities.

Listed below are the dates for each discussion group as well as the book to be discussed each night. The time for each group will be 7:00 p.m.

September 29 - "Two Roads to Sumter", by William & Bruce Catton
October 13 - "Uncle Tom's Cabin", by Harriet Beecher Stowe
October 27 - "Ordeal by Fire, Volume II: The Civil War", by James McPherson
November 3 - "Reconstruction: After the Civil War", by John Hope Franklin
November 17 - "The Private Mary Chesnut: The Unpublished Civil War Diaries", edited by C. Vann Woodward

Participants will hear a short presentation from a visiting scholar and then take part in the discussion. Anyone interested in the series is encouraged to preregister and pick up the first reading selection at the library.
