VISION Demonstration

On March 28th, the Oklahoma State Department of Education and OneNet, Oklahoma's official telecommunications and information network for education and government, hosted a live demonstration of the Virtual Internet School in Oklahoma Network (VISION). Oklahoma legislators and key stakeholders in the project were invited to attend.

The demonstration highlighted the advantages of using the Internet to deliver web-based curriculum and educational services. In addition, demonstrations on how lesson plans, based on academic goals, could be created and distributed through an enriched multi-media environment and how content can be customized to meet the unique needs of individual learners.

Authored by Rep. Abe Deutschendorf and Sen. Ben Robinson during the 2000 Legislative session, VISION laid the foundation for an ambitious and potentially far-reaching learning system. The State of Oklahoma has formed a distinct partnership with private corporate sponsors to fund and launch what is to become the classroom of the future - one that uses the Internet and advanced technologies to improve the quality and value of our educational system as well as increasing access to all of Oklahoma's students.
