Omniplex Science Mentoring Program

In late August 2000, the Omniplex received some unfortunate news regarding its Science Mentoring Center proposal. Lucent Technologies Foundation decided not to fund the initiative. Though appreciative of the planning committee's efforts and extraordinary expertise, Lucent Technologies related it was not clear as to how students would benefit from the mentoring process.

The Omniplex and the planning committee are disappointed that the Science Mentoring Center proposal was not funded, but believes that it represents an unparalleled opportunity to foster meaningful mentoring relationships between Oklahoma students and professionals in the scientific community. Further, the Omniplex is committed to securing funding for the project and is exploring other corporation and foundation funding opportunities.

In an effort to move the project forward, the Omniplex has identified a second, corporate-based foundation to target - the Toyota USA Foundation. This foundation is committed to improving the quality of K-12 education by supporting innovative programs with a primary interest in math and science.

The foundation reviews applications continually and no specific deadlines exist. However, once the application is submitted, it is estimated that the review process can take up to six months to complete, including an on-site visit.
