Internet2

Internet2 is a research and development consortium led by over 190 U.S. universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies, accelerating the creation of tomorrow’s Internet. As a OneNet Customer, you have access to the Internet2 K20 Initiative. This initiative brings together Internet2 member institutions, primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, libraries, and museums to get new technologies – advanced networking tool, applications, middleware, and content – into the hands of innovators, across all educational sectors in the United States, as quickly and as “connectedly” as possible. Remember, private telecommunications and Internet Service Providers will not be able to provide access to this advanced national network backbone.

National Lambda Rail (NLR)

National LambdaRail (NLR) represents the common interests of the nation’s higher education academic and research communities in achieving robust, high capacity, experimental communications services. NLR’s memberships is drawn from leading public and private higher education institutions, and companies from information technology industires. Members have already provided significant volunteer effort, exspecially in NLR’s formation, and have committed over $100 million to deploy the NLR infrastucture. They continue to be engaged in providing many of the services critical to NLR’s ongoing operation. A Board of Directors comprised of representatives selected by members provides oversight and guidance to a compact, agile, and effective core stuff. The NLR Network Research Council advises the Board in establishing and achieving the research goals of NLR, and the Science Research committee advises the NLR organization on how best to support the variety of disciplines that use the NLR infrastructure to conduct scientific research.
