Advanced Network Research Initiatives
Oklahoma Research Network
OneNet operates a dense wave division multiplexing system between Oklahoma City, Norman, Stillwater and Tulsa. This system allows numerous wavelengths of light to traverse state-owned fiber and provides tens of gigabits of bandwith per second to meet the research and business needs of government and education.
Internet2
Internet2 is a research and development consortium led by over 190 U.S. universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies, accelerating the creation of tomorrow’s Internet.
As a OneNet Customer, you have access to the Internet2 K20 Initiative. This initiative brings together Internet2 member institutions, primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, libraries, and museums to get new technologies – advanced networking tools, applications, middleware, and content – into the hands of innovators, across all educational sectors in the United States, as quickly and as “connectedly” as possible.
Remember, private telecommunications and Internet Service Providers will not be able to provide access to this advanced national network backbone.
National Lambda Rail (NLR)
National LambdaRail (NLR) represents the common interests of the nation’s higher education academic and research communities in achieving robust, high capacity, experimental communications services. NLR’s memberships is drawn from leading public and private higher education institutions, and companies from information technology industires. Members have already provided significant volunteer effort, exspecially in NLR’s formation, and have committed over $100 million to deploy the NLR infrastucture. They continue to be engaged in providing many of the services critical to NLR’s ongoing operation.
A Board of Directors comprised of representatives selected by members provides oversight and guidance to a compact, agile, and effective core stuff. The NLR Network Research Council advises the Board in establishing and achieving the research goals of NLR, and the Science Research committee advises the NLR organization on how best to support the variety of disciplines that use the NLR infrastructure to conduct scientific research.
South Eastern University Research Associate
The Southeastern UniversitiesResearch Association (SURA) is a consortium of over sixty universities across the US. SURA operates the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility on behalf of the US Department of Energy and promotes initiatives in nuclear physics, information technologies, and coastal research.
Great Plains Network (GPN)
The Great Plains Network is a consortium of universities in the midwestern states, dedicated to supporting research and education through the use of advanced networking technology.
The Quilt
A consortium of regional optical networks across the United States cooperate in the advancement of common goals and facilitates the interaction with local, state and national groups in establishing best practices in a number of areas.
